Tension Heightens As Taiwan Vows Not To Cede Territory To Beijing

The President of Taiwan, Tsai Ing-wen, has maintained that it will not cede any part of its territory to Beijing, China.

Ing-wen’s reaction is coming in response to a Chinese military drill that started around the Taiwan area on Wednesday.

Taiwan’s defence ministry had stated that Chinese fighter jets allegedly came into Taiwan’s Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ).

“Our men and women in uniform are committed to protecting #Taiwan.

“And this is my response to the #PRC military threat: When it comes to our sovereign territory, we don’t give an inch.

“When it comes to democratic freedoms, we stand firm,” Ing-wen tweeted on Friday.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson is yet to respond to the development as of the time of this report.

Meanwhile, China had stressed that Taiwan, like HongKong, is part of Beijing.

“There is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory,” China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Hua Chunying, had said.
