There’s Desperation To Jail Nnamdi Kanu ‘At All Cost’ – IPOB Lawyer

Lawyer for the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, Barr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, says that the enemies of the IPOB leader want him imprisoned.

“There is desperation to jail him at all cost by enemies,” Ejiofor told Arise News on Monday.

THE WHISTLER reported that that the federal government had last week Tuesday announced the arrest and extradition of the IPOB leader.

The Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, had disclosed that Kanu was brought back to face treason trial.

This website reported that Kanu had appeared before Justice Binta Nyako on Tuesday.

Nyako had granted the prosecution’s application to remand the IPOB leader with the Department of States Services (DSS) pending commencement of his trial on July 26.

But Ejiofor said on Arise News’ Morning Show programme that aside the alleged desperation against his client, the court remanding Kanu in his lawyer’s absence casts doubt as to whether his client will get fair trial.

“Nnamdi Kanu addressed the court by himself and he had no legal competence to do so. If I was there, I would have applied that he be reminded in prison custody, not the DSS.

“That shows that there is a collaboration between the government in question and the people we are appearing before them . Because if at all, there was any element of transparency in what they are doing, it is compelling on the part of the lawyer representing the federal government to inform me that they are coming to court on Tuesday so I can come to court and see my client.

“There is an underlying fact that my client will not get fair trial in that court. The issue of fair trial has been taken away by this collaboration, but we are going to see them in court,” he said.

Ejiofor also debunked the open confessions made by some alleged members of the Eastern Security Networks (ESN).

One Benjamin Emeoyiri claiming to be an IPOB member had reportedly confessed to have attacked public institutions in Imo state while murdering 10 young girls for charm purposes.

But Ejiofor said, “A lot of things are going on. Media trial…people are being paid to say all sort of things against Nnamdi Kanu… but I don’t think I have any issue with that one, when we get to court, we will address it.

“Somebody will come and tell the world that I’m ESN member…I was admitted so and so date…it is the open court that will have to establish that thing,” he said.

The ESN is said to be the paramilitary organization of IPOB.
