Trailer Carrying Rice Falls, Kills One In Anambra

A trailer with registration number ABN625YN, carrying bags of rice, Monday, fell at Agulu lake bridge by Nanka in Anambra State, killing an occupant in the process.

The incident occurred at about 16:15hrs, DRC Margaret B Onabe, Ag. sector public education officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State, said.

The probable cause of the fatal crash was attributed to brake failure and loss of control, she added.

An eyewitness said the trailer, while decending the Agulu hill, ‘failed brake, lost control, veered off the road, and fell on its side’.

The dead was said to be seated on the bags of rice alongside five others–a female and four males.

THE WHISTLER reports that the injured victims were taken to St Joseph’s Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the sector commander, FRSC, Anambra State, Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi, while commiserating with the family of the dead victim, wished the injured victims quick recovery.

He urged motorists to ensure that their vehicles were in good condition before hitting the road.
