Trump Bars Transgender From U.S Military

US President Donald Trump says transgender people will not be accepted or allowed in the United States military.

Transgender relates to a person whose sense of personal identity and gender does not correspond with their birth sex.

In a series of tweets on Wednesday, trump said American forces “must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory” and could not afford to accommodate them.

The president said the resolve followed “consultation with my generals and military experts”.

“After consultation with my generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States government will not accept or allow transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. military,” Mr. Trump wrote.

“Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail.”

The U.S President’s decision reversed a policy initially approved by the Defense Department under President Barack Obama, which was still under final review, that would allow transgender individuals to openly serve in the military.

An earlier report published in April 2011 by the Williams Institute estimated that 3.8 percent of Americans identified as gay/lesbian, bisexual, or transgender: 1.7 percent as lesbian or gay, 1.8 percent as bisexual, and 0.3 percent as transgender.

With nearly 350 million people, the United States of America is the third most populated country in the world, falling far behind China (1.4 billion) and India (1.25 billion).
