Twitter Ban: FG Gets 14,000 Followers On New Koo Account

Amidst the indefinite suspension of Twitter in Nigeria, the Federal Government has opened a new social media account on Indian microblogging and social networking service, Koo.

The account has garnered over 14,000 followers as of the time of this report.

Checks also showed that the account became operational in June.

THE WHISTLER earlier reported that Koo was seeking entrance into the Nigerian market.

Our correspondent observed that the June 12 public holiday was also captured on the account.

THE WHISTLER could not independently verify if the account is truly owned by the Nigerian Government.

Meanwhile, the Economic Times reported that Koo’s co-founder, Aprameya Radhakrishna, announced on Thursday that the federal government has created an account on its app.

This website earlier reported that after Twitter deleted President Muhammadu Buhari’s “civil war” tweet, the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed directed that the platform be banned from operating in the country.

Mohammed hinged the government’s decision on the, “persistent use of the platform” by citizens were “capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.”

After the development, Koo’s CEO, Radhakrishna, stated that the platform would now simplify the app’s usability for Nigerians.
