U.S-Iran Crisis: Nigerian Muslims Call For Calm As More Groups Protest

The Nigerian Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has called on Muslim youths in the Northern part of the country to shun its plans to carry out a peaceful protest across the region.

The council issued the notice in Abuja following rumours of planned protest arising from the killing of Qasem Soleimani in Baghdad airport by the US.

NSCIA stated in the notice that the tension in the Middle East can only be resolved through diplomatic means and thereby adviced the aggrieved youths to thread with caution, adding that it is not timely to conduct such protest.

According to NSCIA: “The attention of the NSCIA has been drawn to a planned peaceful protest by some Muslim youths in the country to vent their anger over the killing of Iranian top military commander, Gen. Qasem Soleimani in Iraq.”

“Although protests are an integral part of civil democracy all over the world, NSCIA believes that the timing is wrong.” The council said.

Similarly, police and other security agencies in Abuja are at alert to respond swiftly to any form of civil unrest arising from the supposed protest.
