In a video footage on Friday, the country’s National Tally Centre (electoral commission) announced that results from 23.9% of polling stations have been counted.

An official of the commission said that so far, Museveni scored 1,536,405 votes (65.02%) while Bobi Wine’s vote count was 647,146 (27.39%).

Wine had said that he was hopeful of victory but had alleged “widespread fraud and violence experienced across the country earlier today” at the polls.

Recall that the government had on January 12, suspended Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media platforms ahead of the elections.

It accused the Big Techs of shutting down some accounts that belonged to its employees.

But Twitter said that the affected employees breached its rules. It had frowned at the government’s actions, saying that it was a violation of international law.

“Ahead of the Ugandan election, we’re hearing reports that Internet service providers are being ordered to block social media and messaging apps.

“We strongly condemn internet shutdowns – they are hugely harmful, violate basic human rights and the principles of the   Open Internet.

Wine had also alleged arrest of all members of his campaign team.
