US Election: China ‘Respects’ Choice Of Americans, Congratulates Biden

China’s foreign ministry spokesperson, Wang Wenbin, on Friday, congratulated President-elect Joe Biden and Senator Kamala Harris, for winning the November 3 United States Presidential election despite the refusal of his opponent in the election, President Donald Trump, to concede defeat.

Joe Biden beat Incumbent President Trump, after crossing the 270 Electoral College votes threshold.

But Wenbin added that the winner of the poll would be determined according to the constitution of the US.

“We respect the choice of the American people. We congratulate Mr. Biden and (vice presidential running mate) Ms. Harris.

“At the same time, the result will be confirmed according to U.S. laws and procedures,” he said as quoted by the Associated Press.

Meanwhile, President Xi Jinping is yet to personally comment on the outcome of the US election.

On his part, Trump had filed multiple suits at various battleground states (Michigan, Georgia, Arizona, Pennsylvania), alleging voter fraud and election irregularities.

A Pennsylvania court had on Thursday faulted the Secretary of state, Kathy Boockvar, for changing deadline two days before Election Day, adding that she lacked powers to do so.

Judge Mary Hannah Leavitt ruled that ballots that were previously set aside should not be counted, Fox News reports.

“[T]he Court concludes that Respondent Kathy Boockvar, in her official capacity as Secretary of the Commonwealth, lacked statutory authority to issue the November 1, 2020, guidance to Respondents County Boards of Elections insofar as that guidance purported to change the deadline … for certain electors to verify proof of identification,” the judge said.

However, the Election Infrastructure Government Coordinating Council, called the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), which has oversight on the integrity of state and federal elections, has disagreed with President over his voter fraud claims.

“The November 3rd election was the most secure in American history.

“There is no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost votes, changed votes, or was in any way compromised,” they said in a statement on Thursday, according to AFP
