Atiku, who clinched 1532 votes out of 3, 221, will be running against President Muhammadu Buhari, who is the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the election.

Below are a few reactions by some residents who spoke with THE WHISTLER on Atiku’s emergence as PDP’s standard bearer:

Ola Eliseus: If he can get the South South and the South East and some part of the South West to vote for him, I think he can defeat Buhari or push the election for a run off…. I think that is a tall order.

Paul Dave: He’s a Fulani just like Buhari, he has proven business success. He has been doing stuff in the background.

He might be more corrupt than Buhari, but he just might be a better leader as he is more exposed than Buhari, he is more open minded.

Adamu: Atiku has more chances than Buhari as even the northerners feel disappointed at Buhari for not “delivering”. As it is, Atiku’s record is clean. There’s more hope in him than in the president now.

Uyiosa Asemota: It good match for Buhari. He has the tendency of defeating Buhari especially if he gets the choice of his running mate right.

Seun John: South East and South South cannot vote a Buhari. South West is where the battle lies. Because already the North will be divided as Atiku has good influence in the north just as buhari

Martins Eze: APC presently uses vote buying as a tool. Atiku also have the financial chest to match them. So, it a contest to watch closely.

Tolu Micheal: Well, whether he can bring the change Nigerians desire is another ball game all together. But one thing I am sure of, he will do better than Buhari.
