What We’ll Do If Anything Happens To Dino Melaye, Dogara Warns IGP

Mr Yakubu Dogara, Speaker of the House of Representatives, on Thursday, warned of dire consequences should anything happen to the Senator represent Kogi West Senatorial District, Dino Melaye.

Dogara gave the warning following the court arraignment of Senator Melaye on a stretcher by the Nigeria Police Force on Thursday.

The police, it would be recalled, had defied a court order on Wednesday when they arrested and forcefully transferred the federal lawmaker to Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, to answer to the criminal charges they preferred against him.

A Magistrates Court in Wuse zone 2, Abuja, had granted Melaye N90 million bail but the senator was, however, re-arrested right on the premises of the court by police operatives.

Decrying the act, Dogara, at a plenary of the House, said the security agency would be held responsible should anything awful happen to the federal lawmaker.

“I have not seen in any country where someone is arraigned in court on stretchers when he or she is not fit to plead guilty or not guilty.

“If anything happens to him, (Dino) the responsibility will be on the security agency,” warned the Speaker.
