White House Calls Trump Impeachment ‘Unconstitutional Travesty’

The White House has described the impeachment of President Donald Trump by the United States House of Representatives as an “unconstitutional travesty”.

The White House slammed the lawmakers and described the development as an “illegitimate articles of impeachment”.

Speaking in a statement by its spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, the White House expressed confidence that Trump would be acquitted in the Senate.

“Democrats have chosen to proceed on this partisan basis in spite of the fact that the President did absolutely nothing wrong,” said Grisham, adding that there were no fact witnesses in the hearing.

“The President is confident the Senate will restore regular order, fairness, and due process, all of which were ignored in the House proceedings.

“He is prepared for the next steps and confident that he will be fully exonerated,” the statement said, referring to the upcoming trial in the upper chamber.

With the impeachment on Thursday, Trump became the third U.S president in history to be impeached by the U.S House after Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton.
