According to the charges, the woman allegedly claimed the maid made her soup sour and, out of anger, poured hot water on her.

The incident happened at 25 Paradise Avenue, Egbelu, on 7 November 2021.

The offence is “contrary to section 332 (1) of the criminal code Cap 37, VOL 2, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria 1999.”

She however, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to her in court, claiming that the little maid poured the hot water on herself.

She further claimed that the maid had previously stole meat from her husband’s food plate.

Chief Magistrate Sotonye Harry, after hearing the case, said the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the matter and remanded the suspect in prison custody.

The case was adjourned to December 6 for Director of Public Prosecution’s advice.
