Yahoo Messenger To Shut Down July 17

Yahoo Messenger known for connecting family and loved ones will bid farewell to its fans on July 17.

The Iconic instant messaging application gave no explanation for shutting its messenger down as it made the announcement on its website.

‘’ Yahoo Messenger will no longer be supported after July 17, 2018. Until then, you can continue to use the service normally. After July 17, you’ll no longer be able to access your chats and the service will no longer work’’ the statement read.

‘’ We know we have many loyal fans who have used Yahoo Messenger since its beginning as one of the first chat apps of its kind.

‘’As the communication landscape continues to change over, we’re focusing on building and introducing new, exciting communications tools that better fit consumer needs.’’

However, the application shutdown will not affect users Yahoo IDs as it can still be used for other Yahoo products.

Yahoo Messenger was introduced in 1998 and was called the ‘Yahoo Pager’. It remained a rage through the late 1990s and early 2000s.

The messenger also witnessed competition from new instant messaging applications such as WhatsApp and the Facebook Messenger.
