119 Bag First-Class As FUT Minna Graduates 5,826

A total of 119 students from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State, have earned first-class degrees, out of the 5,826 students who graduated from the institution in the 2023-2024 academic session.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Faruk Kuta, disclosed this on Tuesday during a pre-convocation media briefing at the permanent site of the institution at Gidan Kwanu, Minna.

According to Kuta, the graduating class comprises 4,955 undergraduate students, 632 master’s degree holders, 105 postgraduate diploma recipients, and 124 PhD graduates.

The VC added that the undergraduate degree is categorised into classes, adding that 1,431 graduated with 2nd Class Upper, Second Class Lower, 2,341; Third Class, 972; and Pass 92.

“As a tradition of the university, the graduates will collect original copies of their certificates immediately after the occasion. Also, they will be able to collect students’ copies of the transcript,” he said.

Kita added that during the convocation, some deserving Nigerians would also be honoured with honorary doctorate degrees.

Speaking on the major achievement of the institution under his leadership, Kita stated that the university has introduced 13 academic programmes that align with contemporary societal needs and global competitiveness.

“The programmes endorsed by the NUC are data software, software engineering, public health, Forestry and wildlife technology.

“Others are forensic science, industrial mathematics, metrology, interior design, furniture design, landscape architecture, food engineering, human nutrition and dietetics, and agribusiness,” he said.

The institution also announced that it will hold a scientific research exhibition from Thursday, January 30, 2025, at the Suleiman Kumo Convocation Square at the main campus as part of activities to commemorate this year’s convocation ceremony.

As part of the ceremony, the institution will also unveil several completed projects, including the state-of-the-art central workshop and foundry complex, an architectural studio, and a brand-new hostel facility funded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND).
