2019: Emir Sanusi Names 2 Things Buhari, Atiku, Others Are Avoiding

The Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, has noted with displeasure two key determinants of human capital development that 2019 presidential aspirants have not adequately explained how they intend to tackle.

Emir Sanusi identified education and health as two major issues affecting the country that 2019 presidential aspirants are not dwelling on.

The monarch, who spoke during his induction into Sigma Club at the University of Ibadan over the weekend, charged Nigerians to interrogate those aspiring to lead them in 2019 with the aforementioned issues.

He said only by so doing will the people hold the country’s leaders accountable and compel them to invest in the country’s future.

Sanusi said, “We have elections in 2019, I read the papers, I look at the television, and listen to the discussions, who is talking about education? Who is talking about nutrition? Who is talking about basic health? As a country, what are our priorities? We don’t have enough money for education. We don’t have enough money for health. We don’t have enough money for nutrition.

“But we have N1trillion or N2trillion to spend on petroleum subsidies. Where is our sense of what is important, and where is our investment in the future?

“So, for all Nigerians, who care about this country, the real task before us is to know that we have 30 years on the outside in which we need to make sure that we do not become the poverty capital of the world, and slum of the world,” said the Emir Kano.

Among aspirants in the 2019 presidential race are incumbent Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari, flag-bearer of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former Vice President Abubakar Atiku, former Minister of Women’s Affairs, Aisha Alhassan, among others.
