4-Year-Old Girl In Critical Condition After Cooking Gas Explosion In Lagos

An unnamed 4-year-old girl is currently in critical condition at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, Lagos State, after a cooking gas explosion.

It was gathered that the explosion occurred in Ojokoro area of the state.

According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the girl’s grandparents and uncle suffered burn injuries in the incident.

The grandmother told NEMA that the explosion occurred as a result of failure to control a flaming oil while frying meat.

Following the incident, 11 families are now homeless, as the entire 14-room building collapsed.

“A 4-year-old girl is in critical condition at LASUTH after a cooking gas explosion at her parents’ residence in Ojokoro, Lagos. Three adults, including her grandparents and uncle, are also undergoing burn care. The grandmother, in severe pain, explained to NEMA that an attempt to control a flaming oil while frying meat led to the gas explosion.

“The girl was rescued by community members. The incident left 11 families homeless, as the entire 14-room building collapsed,” NEMA said.

The landlord of the building, Femi Odubanwo Solomon, who narrowly escaped, is currently staying in a church.
