Abia Deputy Governor Warns Youths Against Vandalism, Promises To Revamp Palm Oil Industry

Abia State Deputy Governor, Engineer Ikechukwu Emetu, has issued a stern warning to youths in Ohafia, particularly those involved in the vandalism and theft of government and communal properties.

The Deputy Governor spoke during an interactive session with youths and residents of Okon-Aku following a recent incident of vandalism at the Eastern Region Estate Investment (EREI) palm oil processing facility. The incident involved the dismantling of palm oil processing mills and tanks for illegal sale.

Investigations revealed that the act was allegedly orchestrated by the President General of Okon Development Union, Mr. Nmecha Ume, in collaboration with other youth leaders within the community.

Deputy Governor Emetu disclosed that a tip-off from village hunters led to the arrest of the culprits while they were transporting the stolen materials.

Engr. Emetu strongly condemned the act, calling it not only shameful but “disgusting” for a community leader to mastermind the destruction and sale of public property. He assured the community that the current government, led by Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, is committed to revamping the palm oil processing facilities. This initiative aims to create job opportunities for the youths and generate revenue for the state.

Speaking to newsmen, the Managing Director of Task International Technical Limited and former President General of the ODU, Chief Ndukwe Iko, expressed his disappointment at the actions of the current President General. Chief Iko emphasized the importance of protecting communal resources and advised against any future attempts at vandalism or theft. He pledged to collaborate with the government to ensure lasting peace and stability within the community.
