ABUJA: Security Agencies Go After Motorists Operating Outside Motor Parks

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police command in partnership with other security agencies have intensified efforts to rid the city of “one-chance” robbery gangs by arresting motorists who operate outside designated motor parks in the federal capital.

THE WHISTLER observed that over 50 confiscated vehicles and motorbikes were parked at the Zuba Police Division.

It was gathered that they belonged to deviant motorists who parked and picked passengers in unauthorized places.

The move is aimed at ensuring that all commercial drivers operate from the nearest parks where they are recognized as this would enable security agencies and commuters who become victims of robbery trail their attackers.

The FCT has in recent times experienced increase in crimes like kidnapping, burgling and one-chance robbery, where victims unknowingly enter vehicles with armed occupants on the highway. These commuters are eventually robbed of their belongings and sometimes never live to tell the stories afterwards.

“If every passenger goes to the park to enter vehicles to their destinations, one can go back to that park when you forget your items or even when you are robbed. Other drivers will be able to tell what vehicle you may have entered.

“So, we are working with other security agencies to ensure that any driver that stops on the expressway especially when it will obstruct the free flow of traffic, then their cars will be seized and then charged to court.

“When they finally pay a fine and bail their vehicles, at least, they will do the right thing next time. We just need to stop this one-chance thing and other insecurity issues in Abuja,” a senior officer in the Division who would not like to be mentioned told THE WHISTLER.

In affirmation, the FCT police spokesperson, Mariam Yusuf, told this newspaper that the move “is a continuous operation in place to check illegal motors parks as part of the effort to rid the city of one chance robbery”
