Airtel Displaces Glo, Emerges Nigeria’s Second Largest Telco

Airtel has emerged the second biggest Global System for Mobile Communications Company in Nigeria with 26.81% market share.

Industry statistics from the Nigerian Communications Commission showed that Airtel displaced Globacom, which now owns a 26.74% market share, in July 2019.

However, MTN Nigeria remains the biggest network provider in the country with 37.43% market share while the fourth mobile network operator, 9mobile, holds a 9.01% market share.

According to the NCC subscriber data, Airtel currently has 123,327 subscribers more than Globacom.

While Globacom gained 118,087 new subscribers to reach a total of 46,713,068, airtel gained a total of 906,400 customers adding up to a total of 174,668,626 active GSM lines in the country.

However, 9mobile was the only operator that lost subscribers in July as 225,283 users left its network, dropping to 15,739,967 mobile users.
