Akinwumi Adesina Sworn In As AfDB President For Second Term

Nigeria’s Akinwumi Adesina has been sworn in as the President of the African Development Bank President to lead the bank for the next five years.

The election that brought him into office for another five years took place electronically last Thursday at the virtual Annual General Meeting of the bank.

Adesina in his speech shortly after he was sworn in said over the last five years, the Bank had delivered impressive results in terms of development of the African continent.

He said that 18 million people have been granted access to electricity, while 141 million people now have access to improved agricultural technologies for food security.

In addition, he said 15 million people have been given access to finance from private investments while 101 million people now have access to improved transport from infrastructure .

He said, “We’ve achieved impressive results. The Bank’s High 5 programmes have impacted 335 million people. That’s what the African Development Bank – your Bank – is all about-people impact”
