American singer, songwriter and music producer, Alicia Augello Cook, popularly known as Alicia Keys, will perform at this year’s UEFA Champions League final, the European football governing body announced on Wednesday.

According to UEFA, the Grammy award winning singer will be the first musical act to perform as a part of the final, which is aired in more than 220 countries.

Keys will be debuting a new music at the show, to around 80,000 people in Milan’s Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on 28 May.

Speaking on her performance, the singer said debuting a new song to such an audience was “pretty insane”, adding that she looks forward to returning to Italy, a place that feels like home to her.

“I’m extremely excited to share my new music at the UEFA Champions League final, an event that is celebrated in every corner of the world,” said Keys.

“This is going to be a powerful moment in history and one that represents the spirit of all the similarities we share no matter where we live and who we are.

“I’m honoured to be a special part of such a beloved experience.

“I feel like it’s a homecoming of love in a lot of ways.”

Speaking earlier, Uefa said Keys’ performance will usher in a new live entertainment era for the final, which intends to “merge the worlds of world-class music, entertainment and sports, as well as celebrate design and fashion as a nod to the host city, Milan”.
