APC, PDP Clash Over Rising Insecurity In Ekiti

The Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State has berated Governor Kayode Fayemi and the Federal Government for their alleged indifference to the rising cases of kidnapping and killings in the state.

The Publicity Secretary of a faction of the PDP in the state, Raphael Adeyanju, said it was worrisome that the governor, who is the chief security officer in the state had not forcefully condemned the insecurity nor taken any serious step to stop it.

Recall that a director in the Ekiti State Local Government Service, David Jejelowo, was shot dead in his residence last Sunday.

Armed hoodlums also on Tuesday stormed the palm oil processing factory along Ijan Ekiti – Ise Ekiti Road, shot a contractor dead and kidnapped the factory owner, a retired United States of America army officer, Major Jide Ijadare (retd) and another person on Tuesday.

Adeyanju said, “It is the duty of every government, at every level to guarantee the safety of lives and property of the citizens.

” In a situation where the government is incapable of performing this duty of securing its citizens’ lives, such government has completely failed and should not expect the trust and loyalty of the people.”

However, the All Progressives Congress in the state has described the PDP’s allegations as spurious.

The APC State Publicity Secretary, Ade Ajayi, said cases of robbery and kidnappings were a general issue in the country.

He said despite the cases recorded in Ekiti State, the state remained one of the few states with few cases of such.

He said the occasional cases of abduction by hoodlums in Ekiti State did not portray Fayemi’s government as doing nothing to address the situation

Ajayi said, “The APC government in Ekiti is doing well to ensure that Ekiti is safe and that was why the government joined the South-West states to establish the security network, Amotekun Corps.”

He said the governor was working with relevant security agencies to bolster security arrangements to make the state safer.
