Be Guided By Rule of Law, Malami Tells NLRC Members At Inauguration

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami SAN, on Thursday, inaugurated new commissioners of the Nigerian Law Reform Commission.

At the inauguration in Abuja, Malami charged them to be guided by the rules and regulations as contained in Section 2 & 8 (1) of the NLRC Act.

As captured on the NLRC’s website, its core mandate “is to keep under review all Federal Laws with a view to their systematic development and reform in consonance with prevailing norms of the Nigerian society.”

On his part, Malami held that laws sustained a nation.

‘’It is uniformly agreed that law as an instrument of social engineering always served as the instrumentality of meaningful reform in any civilised society,” he said.

Furthermore, Malami observed that the commission played a critical role in law reforms.

He stressed that based on its mandate, under section5(2) (a) and (b) of the Act, it was to consider proposals for reform that might be referred to it by the AGF.
