Boko Haram: Police Dismiss Policemen Who Absconded From Counter-insurgency Training

At least 121 policemen who were said to have fled a counterterrorism training camp over fear of confronting Boko Haram insurgents have been dismissed by the Nigeria Police Force.

The dismissed policemen were among the 190 officers who reportedly fled the training camp in Buni Yadi, Yobe State, last week to avoid being deployed against the insurgents.

According to reports, the police dismissed the officers of the rank-and-file cadre on the grounds of mutiny and desertion.

Their immediate dismissal and removal from payroll was ordered by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, in a signal sent out to various police commands on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the police officers’ desertion of their training camp came against the backdrop of the recent mass Killings of soldiers in the North East by the Boko Haram insurgents.
