BORNO: Four Officers Died In Gunfire Protecting Police Asset — Police

Four officers of the Police Borno State Command have paid the supreme price during gunfire while defending the Police Quarters in Gajiram Town, Nganzai Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

The attack occurred at 11:13 pm on Friday when armed men invaded the quarters in their numbers.

“It was a gun battle and an exchange of power. The armed men had plans to overwhelm the place, but the police mobile team were able to repel the attack,” the Borno Police spokesperson, ASP Nahum Kenneth told THE WHISTLER on Saturday.

Kenneth confirmed the unfortunate incident, stating that the officers paid the supreme price, ensuring that no asset was carted away from the quarters.

THE WHISTLER gathered from top security sources in the state that the attacks on police formations are tactics by the Non-State Actors to neutralise security threshold and make the host community vulnerable to attackers.

The assailants also aim to cart away arms and ammunition from these formations to strengthen their capacity.

However, the Borno Police Command in a statement on Saturday refuted claims that its Headquarters was attacked as reported on some media platforms (NOT THE WHISTLER).

“The State Command Headquarters in Maiduguri remains secure and operational, with no incidents of attack reported.

“The public is strongly urged to dismiss the aforementioned misleading information, as the situation at the State Command Headquarters Maiduguri is stable and devoid of any disruptions,” the statement read partly.
