Bowen Varsity To Rusticate Students For Keeping Beards, Breast Tattoos

The management of Bowen University, lwo, Osun State, has vowed to reprimand, suspend or rusticate students who fail to comply with the provisions contained in its students’ handbook.

The institution, founded by the Nigerian Baptist Convention, disclosed that some students were now keeping beards, bushy hair and piercing their noses contrary to the laid down rules.

According to the university’s Director, Directorate of Students’ Support Services,Dr. A.A. Aderibigbe, any student with the following behaviors would be rusticated for one semester.

“Long hair and black colored hair, bushy hair, mustache and beards, piercing of ears, nose, tongue and breast tattoos, necklace by male students, ankle lace (leg chains) by female students , fixing of nail by male students, artficial dread hair.”

As for failure to attend worship service(s), defaulters will face one week rustication and subsequent expulsion if the attitude persists.

“On the directive of the Vice-Chancellor, an uncompromising full enforcement of the provisions of the handbook begins, forthwith. To this end, hostel managers, security team and lecturers have the mandate to ensure compliance,” the statement partly read.
