BREAKING: Protesters Storm N’Assembly Over NGO Bill

Some Nigerians have stormed the national assembly to protest the passage of the controversial non-governmental organisations (NGOs) bill.

The protest began shortly after the House of Representatives committee on civil society organisations and development partners kicked off a public hearing on the bill.

Led by renowned human rights activist, Chidi Odinkalu, the protesters marched down to the national assembly entrance gate from the Unity Fountain.

They were however denied entrance by security operatives.

The bill is titled, “A Bill for an Act to provide for the Establishment of a Non-Governmental Organisation Regulatory Commission for the Supervision, Coordination and Monitoring of Non-Governmental Organisations, Civil Society Organisations, etc. in Nigeria and for Related Matters.”

It was sponsored by the Deputy Majority Leader of the House, Umar Jibril.
