UPDATED: Shiites Storm National Assembly, Set Cars Ablaze

Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), otherwise known as Shiites, on Tuesday, broke into the premises of the National Assembly to protest the continued detention of their leader, Sheik Ibrahim El-zakzaky.

The protesting Shiites members reportedly broke down the first gate and proceeded to the second gate of the complex.

Following several gunshots by security operatives to disband the protesters, the Shiites members went on to burn some vehicles parked close to the assembly’s gate.

Recently, the Islamic movement accused the Federal Government of poisoning El-Zakyzaky, who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) for some time now.

El-Zakzaky was arrested along with his wife after soldiers allegedly killed hundreds of IMN members in Zaria, Kaduna State, between December 12 and 15, 2015.
