Buhari Appoints Female Professor As NAPTIP DG

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed a female professor, Fatima Waziri-Azi, as the new Director-General of the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons. (NAPTIP).

Waziri-Azi’s appointment was announced in a statement by Buhari’s senior media assistant, Garba Shehu, on Wednesday.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Farouq, recommended her for the position, said Shehu.

The presidential aide said Farouq had expressed the “urgent need for the Ministry to intensify on the existing capacity in NAPTIP in order to achieve its Key Result Areas as identified.”

Checks by THE WHISTLER showed that Waziri-Azi was until her appointment a legal adviser to the president at office of the vice president.

The appointee is an associate of professor of law and a senior research fellow at the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies.
