Cameroon Presidential Election: Opposition Candidate Declares Self Winner

Cameroon opposition candidate, Maurice Kamto on Monday declared self the winner in the presidential election which held across the country on Sunday.

Kamto, who leads the Movement for the Rebirth of Cameroon (MRC), called on President Paul Biya to hand over power peacefully.

Biya is seeking his 7th term in office and has been in office since 1982, when Shehu Shagari was President of Nigeria and Ronald Reagan was President of the United States of America.

“I invite the outgoing president to organise a peaceful way to transfer power,” Kamto told a news conference made up of national and international press in the capital Yaounde, giving no results to justify his claim.

Incumbent Biya has not yet reacted to the declaration made by the opposition candidate, but reactions trailing from Cameroon might suggest the Central African Country could be heading for difficult days ahead.
