The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has reportedly suspended its upcoming national convention indefinitely due to paucity of funds.

The convention, which was slated for April 29, 2017, has been suspended as the Presidency and governors elected on party’s platform have allegedly been ungenerous towards the planned event.

According to The AUTHORITY, major APC stakeholders have abandoned the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) following the fallout between the party’s National Leader, Ahmed Bola Tinubu and its National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun after the conduct of the 2016 Ondo state governorship election.

Recall that there had been reports that the APC is faced with the challenge of paying salaries of its workers and that this has threatened operations in the party.

This may not be the best of times for the APC as even the party’s Constitution Review Committee has failed to submit its report for planned convention due to lack of funds.

“The Presidency and governors who are supposed to be the backbone of this party have abandoned it after riding on its back to win elections in 2015.

“It has become clear that the planned national convention can no longer hold. With barely three weeks remaining, there is nothing on ground to show we are preparing for such. Also, the Constitution Review Committee is expected to submit its report which will play a major role in the convention.

“As I talk to you, nothing has been heard from the committee. It has not been mobilised and has since abandoned its job,” an APC chieftain told The AUTHORITY.
