Coronavirus: UBA Donates N2.5B To Nigeria

The United Bank For Africa Plc (UBA) announced a donation of about 5 billion naira for Covid-19 relief support for countries in Africa, out of which, 2.5 billion naira is for Nigeria.

UBA’s Group Chairman, Tony Elumelu, issued the statement on Thursday, on his official Twitter handle.

According to Elumelu, the private sector has to work with various governments, in curbing the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.

“This is a time when we must all play our part; this global pandemic must bring citizens, governments and business leaders together and quickly,” he said.

According to the statement, 1 billion naira goes to the Lagos State government, another 1 billion naira would go to the remaining 35 states in Nigeria; while 500 million naira is donated to the Federal Capital Territory ,Abuja.

The statement also added that the remaining 2.5 billion( 7 million U.S. dollars) would go to African countries with UBA’s presence and for supplies of medical equipments and facility.

He further said that the bank, among other things, would also fund a medical center in Lagos, providing some beds for isolation and other medical gadgets in partnership with Avon Medical Hospital, a subsidiary of Heirs Holdings healthcare.
