COVID-19 : Detol, Lysol Maker Warns Against Injecting Disinfectants After Trump Remark

The manufacturer of Lysol and Dettol, Reckitt Benckiser (RB.L) has warned against using disinfectants to treat the Coronavirus.

The statement comes after the United States President, Donald Trump had suggested that researchers tried putting disinfectants into patients’ bodies.

In an advisory statement on Friday, RB.L said, “As a global leader in health and hygiene products, we must be clear that under no circumstance should our disinfectant products be administered into the human body (through injection, ingestion or any other route)

Meanwhile in an earlier statement by Trump he asked, “Is there a way we can do something like that by injection, inside, or almost a cleaning?” he said. “It would be interesting to check that.”

The company said that due to the suggestion by the president, people were making inquiries if internal usage of disinfectants may be appropriate for investigation or use as a treatment for the virus.”

The Centre for Disease Control had earlier this week  said calls received by poison control centres in the country linked to  household cleaners and disinfectants rose by 20 percent in the first quarter of 2019.
