COVID-19: Lagos Leads With 235 Cases As 18 States Record 476 New Infections

Lagos State and the Federal Capital Territory are top of the list of 18 states which have recorded 476 new coronavirus (COVID-19) infections in Nigeria.

According to figures released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Thursday, Lagos, FCT and Kaduna have recorded 235 , 44 and 41cases, respectively.

The new infections bring the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country to 50,964.

The NCDC said the total number of discharged patients is 37,56 while official death toll stands at 992.

The agency had earlier advised members of the public to practice preventive behaviors to reduce the risk of spreading COVID19 to the elderly and vulnerable in the society by observing physical distancing, wearing a face mask and washing hands frequently.

The NCDC also stated that the virus that causes COVID-19 can live on surfaces for several hours.

In view of this, it urged Nigerians to limit or avoid sharing personal items, touching high-contact surfaces like door handles and stair rails and ensure that all surfaces are cleaned with soap and water or disinfectants.
