COVID-19: NYSC Seeks PTF’s Approval To Restart Operations

The management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), on Tuesday, paid a courtesy visit to the Director General, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC),
Chikwe Ihekweazu, in Abuja, over its plans to run its scheme within covid-19 public health advisory.

The Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, told the NCDC, that the corps had formulated strategies for its operations amidst the gradual phase out of the covid-19 lockdown.

He stressed that the NYSC management would present it to the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 through the NCDC for guidance.

“As efforts to contain the COVID-19 pandemic continues, the National Youth Service Corps is strategizing for safe and efficient conduct of its operations ahead of further lifting of restrictions on socio-economic activities in the country,” NYSC stated.

The NYSC DG also told the NCDC DG that the scheme had fully complied with all covid-19 restrictions by halting orientation camps and had produced some health equipment, among others.

On his part, Chikwe Ihekweazu, lauded NYSC for doing a great job in terms of compliance and contribution to the PTF directives.

He added that the NYSC proposals presented by the Director-General, would be looked into, and further advice would be given to the appropriate authorities.
