Cultism Is Leading Crime Among Youths In Anambra— CP

The Anambra State police commissioner, CP Chris Owolabi, Wednesday, said over 90 per cent of cult-related deaths in the state was not recorded.

The commissioner disclosed this at a Peace/Security Summit jointly put together by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the state Police Command.

The event held at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka.

Mr Owolabi, represented by the assistant commissioner of police in charge of operations in the state, Emmanuel Ogbuanya, said, “Cultism is the mother of all the crimes being committed by the youth. It is unfortunate.

“Parents should also take issues of cultism seriously by inculcating good moral values in their children. We urge students in various higher institutions to be brave enough to release timely information to security forces in their various institutions.”

The vice-chancellor of the university, Prof Charles Esimone, represented by the dean of students’ affairs, Prof Nonso Achebe, urged students to take security of their lives and environment seriously.

Chuks Okafor, the convener of the summit, attributed the increasing crime rates to hard drugs.

He further called on Nigerian leaders to organise a national summit aimed at addressing nation’s problems.
