Discussions Ongoing On Resumption Of Tertiary Institutions – Education Ministry

The Federal Government, on Monday, said that it was fine-tuning a framework for the reopening of tertiary institutions.

Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, disclosed this during the Covid-19 Presidential Taskforce press briefing, in Abuja.

Nwajiuba noted that the National Universities Commission had fully briefed the ministry about the level of readiness of its institutions.

But, he stressed that while the PTF would come up with a national guideline, it would now be left to sub-nationals and the governing council of each tertiary institution, to define how its students would return, in line with covid-19 health protocols.

“That discussion is ongoing.

“We’ve received feedback from Tertiary institutions,” he said in response to the question on school reopening.

Recall that the PTF had maintained that safety must be guaranteed prior to full reopening of schools.

Nwajiuba also stated that some secondary school students who had contracted covid-19 at the ongoing national examinations, had recovered.
