Edo: Why I Switched Support From Obaseki To Ize-Iyamu – Oshiomhole

The former National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, at a campaign rally on Monday, explained to voters why he is rooting for a candidate different from the one he supported in the 2016 governorship election in Edo State.

Oshiomhole said his decision to withdraw support for the incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki, was because the governor allegedly failed to build on his achievements in office.

Obaseki had succeeded Oshiomhole who served two terms as governor of the state from 2008 to 2016.

The governor had resigned his membership of the APC in June and defected to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) after his erstwhile party controversially disqualified him from seeking re-election on its platform.

Oshiomhole, at the rally on Monday, said Obaseki had failed to deliver on his 2016 campaign promises and hence should not be re-elected by voters in the September 19 election.

“Today, you are complaining of lack of good roads, no teachers, no water because he failed to continue with my work,” the former APC chairman said during the ward-to-ward campaign at Ogwa, Esan West and Amahor, Igueben Local Government Areas of the state.

Also speaking at the rally, the APC governorship candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, said Obaseki had mismanaged his first term and betrayed the trust of Edo people.

“The governor did nothing for Edo people for almost four years and does not deserve a second term because he will also not work for the people,” he said, urging the electorate to vote massively for APC to restore Edo to the path of development.

“We will bring more roads and employ teachers in your schools.

“In the area of Manpower development, our women need more than wrappers, they need money to support their businesses,” Ize-Iyamu said.
