Ekiti Poll: ‘Protect Your Votes To The End’, PDP Tells Supporters

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has urged its supporters in Ekiti to protect their votes in the July 14 gubernatorial election in the state.

The party made this call in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, on Thursday in Abuja.

The PDP said Wednesday’s harassment and maltreatment of Governor Ayo Fayose by the police, is the more reason the Ekiti people should come out enmasse to support its candidate Prof. Kolapo Olusola-Eleka, on Saturday.

The party also cautioned officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agents and election observers participating in the election to monitor the trend.

The party stated that any action contrary to set rules would not be condoned by the people.

“We know that the whole essence of the heavy security presence in Ekiti is an attempt to frighten the people and scare them away from participating in the election,” Ologbondiyan said.

“We are sure that such thing cannot work in Ekiti, where the people are famous for their boldness, fearlessness and resistance in the face of repression.

“The PDP, therefore, charges the people to demonstrate their bravery by coming out in their millions in spite of all odds to vote for Olusola-Eleka.

“The PDP urges the people to show resilience by using every democratic means available to resist any act of rigging and ensure that they protect their votes to the end.

“This is so because Ekiti is a known stronghold of the PDP and we shall never allow anybody by whatever means to manipulate us out in this election.

“We stand with the Ekiti people in their quest for one man, one vote.”

The PDP on Thursday held a peaceful protest at INEC headquarters in Abuja, demanding credible elections in Ekiti and future elections.

National Chairman of the party, Mr Uche Secondus, who led the protest, said that Nigerians and the international community were watching to see if there would be elections in 2019.

He said that the assurance for 2019 would be from Ekiti governorship election.

Secondus said that intelligence information showed that some INEC officials and some security agents were already in in collusion to rig the Ekiti election.
