Ekweremadu: Police Say It’s Burglary, Not Assassination Attempt

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has declared Tuesday’s alleged invasion of the residence of the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, by some assailants, as burglary and not an assassination attempt.

The Federal Lawmaker had earlier raised an alarm of assassination attempt on his life and that of his family.

But the police said: “Preliminary investigation carried out so far did not reveal assassination attempt on the life of the Dep. Senate President, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu and his family but a case of Burglary. However, investigation is still ongoing to determine if there is any other motive behind the offence.”

The police also said investigation revealed that the suspects burgled another house before getting to Ekweremadu’s home.

“The residence of Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu on No 2, Jim Nwobodo Street, APO Legislative Quarters was broken into by Mohammed Yusuf of Kauranamuda, Zamfara State, who was arrested at the scene and now in police custody along with one Ali (other name unknown) who escaped from the scene at about 0430hrs of today, November 6, 2018.”

However, reacting to the police interim report on Wednesday, Ekweremadu said the NPF lied about its claim concerning the attack on his home.

Legit.ng quoted Ekweredmau as threatening to release the video of the alleged assassination attempt on his life.

“The police looked at the CCTV footage but could not figure it out. Fortunately, a technician came and was able to figure out the footage. Unless they withdraw their report, I will release the video to Nigerians to judge for themselves,” Ekweremadu said.
