EndSARS Protests: Reps To Make Provisions For Victims’ Compensation In 2021 Budget

The House of Representatives is to make provisions for the payment of compensation to victims of the #EndSARS protests in the 2021 budget.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had laid the estimates of the budget before a joint session of the National Assembly last week.

However, the budget did not envisage the SARS protests, hence no provisions were made in it for payment of compensation to victims maltreated by the police.

But, speaking during Tuesday’s plenary in Abuja, Gbajabiamila disclosed that the House would make the provisions.

He stated that the names of the victims would be collated to help the legislature to determine the nature of compensation to the be paid to them.

“The people that we represent have spoken, and the government has listened. The President has unequivocally dissolved SARS.

“The House had last week reached some resolutions on the issue. It shows that we’re on the same page with the Nigerian people.

“We should get the list of those that lost their lives so that during this budget process, we’ll be able to appropriate for their full compensation”, the speake told the session.
