EXCLUSIVE: How Plot To Impose Buhari’s In-Law As APC Guber Candidate Failed

There are indications that some ‘Abuja politicians’ said to be averse to Governor Bindo Umaru Jibrilla’s re-election as Adamawa State governor in 2019, have failed in their alleged plot to impose President Muhmmadu Buhari’s brother-in-law as the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

The alleged plot to impose Dr. Mahmood Halilu Ahmed, who is said to be a brother to First Lady Aisha Buhari, as APC governorship candidate was met with stiff resistance by chieftains of the APC in the state.

THE WHISTLER gathered from a reliable source in the Adamawa APC that the major reason why the ruling party’s gubernatorial primary election was being repeatedly postponed was due to the plot to scheme Governor Bindo out of the race and install the First Lady’s brother as the gubernatorial candidate of the party in the state ahead of the general elections in 2019.

The Adamawa APC governorship primary had earlier been fixed for last Sunday, but was postponed to October 4 by the national leadership of the party due to a change in the mode of the primary election.

This newspaper equally gathered that besides the repeated postponement of the Adamawa governorship primary, the party’s back and forth resolution on the mode of primary election to use was largely due to alleged concerted efforts to scheme Governor Bindo out of the race. The party had reneged on its earlier resolution by changing the election mode from indirect to direct primary.

Speaking to our correspondent, a party chieftain in the state who doesn’t want to be mentioned alleged conspiracy against the incumbent governor by some influential people to help Dr Ahmed emerge as the governorship candidate of the APC in the state.

The source, while trying to explain the repeated postponement of the primary, said “Some Abuja politicians are against Bindo’s re-election in 2019. They have been devising several methods to ensure [Mahmood Halilu] Ahmed emerges our party’s candidate in the primary poll, but Governor Bindo has upper hand and we will beat them to their game.”

The source, who is loyal to Bindo, further told our correspondent that the governor’s supporters would resist any crooked effort targeted at imposing President Buhari’s in-law as the ruling party’s gubernatorial candidate.
