FG Proposes N7.7bn For Abuja–Lokoja Road As Works Budget Hits N3.48tn

The Federal Government has proposed a N7.7bn allocation for the ongoing reconstruction of Sections I and II of the Abuja–Lokoja Road in the 2026 budget.

This covers the Zuba–Abaji corridor in the 2026 budget of the Federal Ministry of Works.

The provision is a part of the N3.49tn total budget proposed for the ministry in 2026.

The Abuja–Lokoja Road, which is one of Nigeria’s most strategic highways linking the Federal capital remains a priority project due to its economic and security importance.

Also, the proposed budget provides N4.9bn for the completion of outstanding sections of a previous contract on the Abuja–Lokoja Road.

THE WHISTLER learnt that works cover multiple dualised segments, with a total remaining length of about 86.6 kilometres on both left-hand and right-hand sides.

The proposed 2026 budget shows that the Ministry of Works will receive N12.95bn for personnel costs, N35.73bn for overheads, and N3.44tn for capital expenditure.

This reflects the infrastructure-heavy mandate of the ministry.

Some of the notable projects captured under the capital component include N350 million for the rehabilitation of the Murtala Mohammed Bridge in Koton Karfe, Kogi State; N700 million for the rehabilitation of the Share–Pategi Road in Kwara State; and N4.21bn for the construction of the Agaie–Katcha–Barro Road in Niger State under Phases I and II.

The proposed budget also makes provisions for road safety and highway infrastructure, including N14 million each for the installation of solar street lights, solar stud lights and traffic warning signals in the South-East and South-West zones.
