Fire Outbreak Shuts Down CAC Servers

The servers of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) were temporarily shut down due to the fire outbreak at the headquarters of the Commission in Abuja on Wednesday.

The Registrar General of the CAC, Abubakar Garba, attributed the fire outbreak to a power surge in an air conditioner in the building.

Garba stated this while addressing journalists at the CAC head office in Abuja.

“It was actually a very minor fire incident. At about 10:20 hours today, one of the outer units of the split Air Conditioners on the 6th floor in the main building was affected by a power surge and it burst and the fire ignited.

“The sound attracted the attention of the few personnel within the premises and they immediately mobilized to quench the fire using fire extinguishers and fire hose reels within the building,” he said.

Our correspondent heard Abubakar telling someone over the phone that the fire had triggered an outage in the main building, thereby causing the Commission’s servers to shut down.

“It was a minor incident. Our servers were shut down due to the outage, but have since been restored,” said the Registrar General

Abubakar noted that no document was lost to the fire, contrary to reports on social media.

Meanwhile, this makes it the second fire incident to be reported in a government agency in that last one week.

The office of the Accountant General of the Federation at the Treasury House, Abuja, had similar been gutted by fire last week.

The incident was said to be due to an electrical spark in one of the offices in the building.
