Former Eagles Defender Babalade Ajibade Dies At 48

The Football fraternity in Nigeria has been thrown into mourning as veteran Super Eagles defender, Ajibade Babalade, died today, Friday, of cardiac arrest in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

The Punch reports that he passed on while he was being conveyed to the University College Hospital, Ibadan, in the afternoon.

The former 3SC gaffer was among the Eagles squad that won bronze at the 1992 African Cup of Nations in Senegal.

His blistering career started at Stationary Stores of Lagos and 3SC where he reached the finals of the CAF Champions League as a player and was later the coach of the side in October 17, 2008.

He also played abroad with SK Sturm Grazing in Austria, Anyang LG Cheetahs in South Korea, Mohun Bagan AC in India, and an Ivorian club side, African Sports.

He is survived by a wife and three kids.
