Four Injured As Fully Loaded Truck Falls On Car In Lagos

Occupants of a Passat Volkswagen car sustained various degrees of injuries as a truck laden with beverages fell on top of the car in the Igando area of Lagos State.

The driver of the truck and his assistant were also said to have been among the injured victims as the articulated vehicle landed on the car while trying to avoid a head-on-collision with another car.

Eyewitnesses told THE WHISTLER that the truck was speeding and the driver lost control of the vehicle in his bid to avoid colliding with a car.

The accident, which happened in front of Diamond Estate, did not record any fatality.

Residents of the area were said to have rushed to the scene to rescue the victims from the two vehicles and took them to a nearby hospital for.treatment.

The truck emptied it’s content on the road as if fell thereby preventing vehicular movement until it was lifted and removed from the road by the Lagos State Emergency Agency. The wreckage of the car was also removed and towed to the nearby police station.

The Director-General of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the accident.

He said, “Lagos State Emergency Agency’s Dolphin Squad at Igando also recovered a truck with registration number LSR 308XJ laden with beverage drinks (Viju milk) and a Passat car with registration number LSD 912 CX.

“Investigation conducted at the scene revealed that the truck, while trying to avoid a head-on collision with an unidentified taxi car swerved and fell on an incoming Passat car, injuring four male adult including the motorboy and the driver.”

Similarly, a diesel-laden tanker has fallen on the Lekki-Epe Expressway Lagos

The accident was said to have occured when a truck rammed into the mini-tanker from the rear.

The LASEMA DG said the driver and the assistant driver of the tanker also sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment

The LASEMA boss said in a statement, “At Ikate Bus-stop, along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, a mini tanker with registration number EPE-02XW belonging to Alhassan Oil and Gas, fully loaded with 13,000 litres of diesel fell on its side as a result of being hit from behind by a truck on high to lose control and swerved onto the median before falling on its side. “

The LASEMA boss appealed to motorists and articulated truck drivers to avoid speeding while lamenting incessant rate of accidents involving trucks and other articulated vehicles in the state.
