George Floyd: Pope Condemns Racism, Calls For End To Violence

The leader of the Catholic Church Worldwide, Pope Francis has called for an end to racism, stressing it should not be allowed in any society.

His tweet on Wednesday may not be unconnected to the death of Black American, George Floyd, which has inspired worldwide reactions.

A white U.S. police official was seen kneeling on the neck of Floyd; he later died.

“We cannot tolerate or turn a blind eye to racism and exclusion in any form,” Pope Francis tweeted.

Pope also frowned at the use of violence to prove a point in a nation.

He stated that violence only brings destruction to lives and retrogression to a country.

“At the same time, we have to recognize that violence is self-destructive and self-defeating.

“Nothing is gained by violence and so much is lost,” he added.

Pope also called for intercession “for reconciliation and peace across nations.”
