Gov Makinde Contracted Coronavirus From Abuja – Aide

Governor Seyi Makinde’s chief press secretary, Taiwo Adisa, has claimed that his principal contracted the dreaded Coronavirus (COVID-19) disease during recent engagements with known figures in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Adisa said this while appearing as a guest on a Silverbird Television programme on Tuesday.

He made the statement to counter claims that Makinde may have contracted the disease at a recent mega rally of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibadan, Oyo State, for which the governor was criticised.

Adisa said, “the issue of the March 18 PDP Southwest Zonal Unification Rally doesn’t come to play because there was no known incident of the virus in Oyo state and the governor didn’t also have any symptom(s) as at that time.”

He said his principal and other governors had afterwards visited Abuja where they held a series of meetings.

“So, governor Makinde had contact with people, we should not politicise an issue like this,” said Adisa.

Meanwhile, Governor Makinde had on Tuesday said he was uncertain where he got the virus from.

“I can’t really say where I contracted the virus but the truth is that, all governors attended the executive council meeting almost a week ago,” he was quoted to have said during a phone interview on a radio programme in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

The governor also spoke about a viral video of him at the PDP rally where he was seen making mocking remarks about Coronavirus against the opposition in the state.

Makinde however said, “my statement in the video circulating around where I said during Oyo PDP rally that Coronavirus is in APC was a metaphorical statement”.

THE WHISTLER had reported that Makinde became the third Nigerian governor to test positive for COVID-19, after Governors Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State and Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State.
