A female corps member posted to Bayelsa State to server her father’s land under the platform of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has been left to struggle between the thin line of life and death after she was raped.
According to reports, the unidentified corps member was assaulted and raped by a 3-man gang of robbers who invaded the ‘Corpers Lodge’ at Yenizue Gene, a suburb of Yenagoa, about 3 a.m. on Sunday.
During the invasion, the hoodlums capitalised on the blackout in the area to carry out the crime and forcefully took away the lady where she was then raped by the suspects who took her in turns.
The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company had, since November 2017, placed the state in a total blackout with electricity restored once in a while thus leading to a hike in criminal activities.
However, the Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State Police Command, Mr. Asinim Butswat, confirmed the robbery adding that “The traumatised corps member reported the matter to the station, including the way the hoodlums took turns to rape her.
“She has made a useful statement on the identities of the armed robbers. We have launched a manhunt for them.”
