According to the schedule released, primaries will be held between February 16 and February 24 across the state. INEC warned that as mandated by the Electoral Act, the primary elections must be held within the state.

INEC urged parties to adhere strictly to the stated timelines and modes for their primaries to avoid rancour and legal disputes that could arise from arbitrary changes and non-compliance with their constitutions.

Among the major parties, the All Progressives Congress (APC) will conduct its primaries on February 17 and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) both picked February 22 to hold their primaries.

The modes of primary election adopted by the major parties were not stated in the schedule released by INEC on Thursday.
